Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked — pricing, platforms, child safety, and what's on the roadmap.
What is StoryTelly?
StoryTelly turns a short prompt into a fully illustrated storybook your child becomes the hero of. Each story is generated end to end — narrative, illustrations, and gentle pacing tuned for reading aloud at bedtime.
How are illustrations created?
We use leading AI image models (OpenAI, Stability, Replicate, Google, fal.ai) and pick the one that best fits the art style you choose. Every prompt is screened against OpenAI's moderation API before any image is generated — fail-closed when the service is unreachable.
How is my child kept safe?
Child names are tokenized on your device before any prompt leaves — the server never sees your child's real name. Every illustration prompt is moderated before generation. A configurable parent lock (PIN, pattern, or BIP39 recovery code) gates destructive actions like story deletion, account deletion, and sign-out. We follow COPPA, GDPR, and CCPA. See /privacy-rights for the full data-rights walkthrough.
What platforms does it run on?
StoryTelly ships today as a desktop app for Windows, Mac, and Linux. A web version is in development and will launch alongside paid subscriptions.
What's included in the free tier?
Three illustrated stories per week, every art style except the two premium-only ones, up to three panels per story, PDF and coloring-book PDF export. The free tier is the same on desktop today and the web app when it launches.
What art styles are available?
Seven styles ship today — soft watercolor, cosy hearth, whimsical woods, paper-cut storybook, vintage line art, modern flat, plus a premium-only line-art coloring book and a Beatrix-Potter-inspired naturalist watercolor. Each style is consistent across every page of a story.
Can I write parts of the story myself?
Yes. Full mode writes the whole story from a short premise. Descriptions mode expands 2-5 scene sketches into a polished narrative. Manual mode keeps your text verbatim and adds only illustrations — perfect for child-authored stories.
Can I save or print the storybook?
Every story exports to PDF for sharing or printing. A separate coloring-book PDF turns the illustrations into black-and-white outlines for your child to color in.
Does StoryTelly speak my language?
StoryTelly is English-only today. Multi-language support is on the roadmap — see /faq later for updates.
What data does StoryTelly store about my child?
Stories and illustrations are stored in your account so you can reopen them. Your child's first name is encrypted on your device and tokenized before any prompt leaves — the server never receives it in plain text. You can delete any story or your whole account at any time; see /privacy-rights for the full data-rights walkthrough.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation will be available from your account settings the moment subscriptions launch. There are no contracts and no cancellation fees.
